This is our personal journal as we live our journey through Maddy's diagnosis of autism.
This place will be mostly of updates and day to day recounts of what is going on in the world of Maddy.
Maddy has the preliminary diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. (July 15, 2010) She is 26 months old. She has not been officially diagnosed, though unfortunately, the diagnosis seems to be coming. Insurance companies will not let us proceed if we don't have a diagnosis.
We are in the beginning stages of everything. We hope to begin a home based ABA program (because there are no progams in our area of the country) very soon. She is still in the beginning stages of getting all her evaluations from speech, hearing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and Early Intervention.
Like most people diagnosed with ASD, Maddy's symptoms are unique. She has limited eye contact, limited speech, repeatitive motions, and various other quirks. She is, however, the happiest child on the block. She always has a smile for us. Greets us. And is continually our ray of sunshine. She is not what most people invision Autism to be. To us, she is extraordinary.
